For David, songwriting has always been deeply intuitive.
Since childhood, he has experienced a strong connection to the spirit world, and he describes many of his musical ideas as arriving through that connection. A melody, lyric, story, or complete direction for a song can sometimes appear with remarkable clarity.
He combines that intuitive process with decades of musical experience to develop songs that have structure, emotion, character, and a sound suited to the artist who will perform them.

Eli Caraway
Contemporary Mississippi Delta Blues
Eli Caraway was developed as a fictional contemporary blues artist to give David a vehicle for exploring the grit, emotion, storytelling, and musical traditions of the Mississippi Delta through an entirely distinct artist identity.
The Eli Caraway catalog demonstrates David's ability to step outside his own musical persona and write for a specific voice, character, history, and sound. The music explores perseverance, heartbreak, hope, relationships, and everyday life through contemporary blues.
Albums include I Got the Good Kind of Blues, I'm on Top of the World, and Do the Right Thing.
Negril Drift
Reggae Inspired by Jamaica
After many visits to Jamaica, David wanted to write music influenced by the rhythms and musical spirit he experienced there. That inspiration became Negril Drift, a fictional Jamaican band built around the characters Isaiah and Althea.
Creating Negril Drift gave David the opportunity to develop not simply individual reggae songs, but an entire musical identity with its own sound, personalities, stories, and evolving catalog.
Albums include Power in the Music, Strolling in the Moonlight, and Reggae Astrology.
